Buy Home Plans

Welcome visitors to the Buy Home Plan section of our website. In this segment Blueprint for Home Building host Jeff Wilson will explain to you what actually home plans are and what is their importance in building a home.

What Is a Home Plan?
A home plan is a series of drawings that basically describes what you are going to be build and how you would be building it. That is, it will surely consist all the sheets providing important details necessary to describe the house such as floor plans, elevations, sections, interior elevation details and the structural set. You can even assume it as your complete home on paper sheets or the map of your home.

Other than the structural information a home plan will also have details of the foundation, framing, roofing, plumbing and electrical wiring of the proposed home so that at the time execution of the home plan nothing is left to the chance and both time and money is saved.

Being an unbiased facilitator of the information and services in this field as well, we advise you that it would be better for you to work with a reputed architect or a design firm to secure a home plan. As being the professionals in their field of operation they will be able to provide you with many options if not thousands.

What are some of the Home-Plan Options?

  • An architect, if you choose to hire one, will guide you through the entire design process for your home, and she or he will make sure your dream home is built properly.
  • There are several other ways to secure a home plan as well. You can select from the ready-made plans that can be found in books and even online (figure A) over the Net. However after choosing one of these plans you would need an architect who will be able to assist you in modifying the selected plan to suit your needs.
  • Note: When choosing or designing a home plan, it is of utmost importance to keep any financial constraints in mind. You need to think about your budget and what you can afford. Be sure to get feedback from the builder, even if it is a ballpark figure.
  • Financial Construction Tip: Do not make changes after construction starts, or at least keep them to a minimum as it will result in even higher cost of construction. It is highly advisable to make changes in the plans "before" the building process begins to save money and time at a later stage.
  • A great home plan should be able to tell more than just a bunch of measurements and codes into consideration. Thus it should also be able to accommodate the future requirements of your family. For example, when you are designing your home or working with an architect, be sure to include features that will allow you to stay in the home for decades to come.
  • This early stage of planning is the best time and opportunity to do all the work and rework required. You can do things early on for very little money that will save a bundle later on after the home of your dreams is constructed.
  • Children are our future. So if you have plans to be Parents, for another example, you can have a home plan that might provide a den as of now (figure B) that can be divided into bedrooms later. So provide the space for your 'future' to grow properly.
  • If you are planning to design your own home then you should have experience in structural engineering and plan drafting (figure C).

What does "Up to Code" Mean?

You must have heard this phrase many times in association with building a home. Codes are the minimum standards that are required to build any home. And, unfortunately, most potential home builders believe this means what is the least I can do to meet standards, when -- in fact -- it means just the opposite. Codes (figure D) are actually rules that tell the builders the best way to build your home.

Note: Keep in mind that there are different codes for different parts of the country, which is why it becomes important that if you hire an architect, he or she is very much familiar with the local home-building codes.

In the next segment you will meet more of the "team" that makes building your dream home a reality.
