Build Construction Methods

To get the best results you need to integrate all of the design features of your new home, from the roof, windows, floors as well as the heating, lighting and ventilation.

Wooden home incorporates the methods such as using sustainable wood sources, natural energy sources, passive solar design and increased thermal performance. Timber frame builds are lightweight as compared to a brick and block house, have little thermal mass and the insulation is close to the inside of the house. The combination means that they respond quickly to changes in temperature, so when the heating is switched on, the house heats up quickly, and vice versa. Thus they are extremely energy efficient.

Timber framed constructions are easier to make airtight and insulate. Timber framed homes are becoming a norm with self builders willing to try new methods of construction. For brick and block to match the same levels of thermal insulation achieved by an enhanced timber frame, insulated dry lining with vapour check has to be included in the wall construction, increasing costs considerably.

In fact, timber frames produced by local sustainable sources are one of the greenest building materials. Each green self build will be different as the self builder can work to every minute detail, and design it according to the own expectations and requirements.

Self build homes that are constructed utilizing passive solar design use the natural movement of heat and air to maintain comfortable temperatures, operating with little or no mechanical /assistance. It's called passive solar because the design of the home maximizes the benefits it receives from the sun with standard construction features.
